Flash News: Harry Winston Premier Chronograph 40 mm

By Thierry Ané on March 17, 2014

Harry Winston’s timepieces have a very unique aesthetic that I really appreciate. Whatever the collection, the watches presented by this high-end jeweller are a perfect blend of refinement and originality. Launched in 1989, the House’s first timepiece collection, the Premier, perhaps best exemplifies Harry Winston’s style codes: an elegant case with unusual attachments that recall the neo-classical arch defining the façade of the brand’s historic Fifth Avenue Salon coupled with visually stunning asymmetric dials.

Just before Baselworld, the brand unveils a new Premier Chronograph 40 mm model for ladies that precisely meets this roadmap. Without losing its origins, the 40 mm rose gold Premier case has been redesigned and slimmed down to create a more elegant profile. It is set with sparkling brilliant-cut diamonds to recall the brand’s history and features a superb brown Tahitian mother-of-pearl dial with rose gold applied Arabic numerals and minute track punctuated by diamond five-minute markers.

The chronograph sub-dials are circled in rose gold and set with one or two rows of brilliant-cut diamonds. Shaped like an exquisitely faceted gem, the crown proudly celebrates the brand’s fine-jewelry heritage. The shiny taupe alligator strap secured by a set rose gold pin buckle provides the perfect finishing touch as it blends admirably with the colour of the mother-of-pearl. The watch is also available in white gold with a grey mother-of-pearl dial and a matching shiny anthracite alligator strap.

The only criticism I have is about the inside of the watch: a quartz movement! I know that this is more the rule than the exception for ladies’ watches but I still believe that when you pride yourself of being part of the high-end Swiss watchmaking sphere, this is simply something you should not do.
