Flash News: ArtyA Son of Earth Butterfly Art Collection (+live pics)

When the name ArtyA is mentioned, many watch aficionados will immediately think over-the-top watches with real shredded Euros, dinosaur’s poop or even Yvan Arpa's own blood. Very eccentric statement pieces that clearly show Mr Arpa's creativity and unconventional thinking, but that many watch lovers would disregard as examples of fine watchmaking and put in the subversive art category.
The thing with ArytA, though, is that the brand offers such a large range of models that everyone can find something to suit their tastes. One might even be surprised by the aesthetic of some of the timepieces offered by this unconventional brand… And, this is precisely what happened during our Baselworld visit to ArtyA’s booth when we were shown the three Son of Earth Butterfly Art timepieces.
First of all, these magnificent watches are presented in ArtyA’s new classic case: a refined 42 mmm round case in rose gold with harmonious proportions, slightly curved lugs that prolong the shape of the case and a gently bevelled bezel that offers an uncluttered aperture on the dial. Mounted on a black alligator strap, the watch is secured by an extremely classic rose gold pin buckle. If you are stunned by this description for a ArtyA watch, keep reading as the surprises are far from over!
The time-only model is powered by a high-end self-winding movement. Swiss made and COSC-certified, it offers 42 hours of power reserve and indicates the hours and minutes by means of two faceted Dauphine hands gently hollowed in their centre. Again, quite unexpected characteristics won’t you say?
However, it is clearly the dial of each model that steals the show. Truly inspired by Mother Nature, Dominique Arpa-Cirpka delicately combined tropical butterfly wings, natural pigments and gold leaves to create magnificent abstract compositions. Enhanced by the pigments and gold details the fragile and iridescent butterfly wings illuminate the dial and offer a mesmerising show.
All three models are absolutely stunning and no pictures can really do them justice. I am sure that any person that appreciates the decorative pieces offered by more established brands would want to buy one of these three watches after seeing them in person. I am really in awe of Dominique Arpa-Cirpka’s talent and hope to see more models going in this direction in the future.
