Watches: Hublot Big Bang Ferrari Texas
By Thierry Ané on November 14, 2013
With new boutiques opening at a frantic pace, Hublot is definitely not short of opportunities to celebrate. So much the better since they are releasing new limited editions at the speed of light!
The occasion this time is the opening of Hublot’s tenth boutique in the USA. Located at the prestigious Galleria Mall in the heart of Houston (Texas), this boutique also inaugurates, on American soil, the brand’s new interior concept, mixing a fusion of styles to the fusion of materials.
Powered by the same HUB 1241 Unico calibre as the previous Big Bang Ferrari versions, the watch also features the sapphire dial with a discreet rhodium-plated Prancing Horse, so characteristic of this Ferrari collection. Limited to 50 pieces, the Texas edition receives a titanium case with a nicely contrasting brushed black ceramic bezel. The watch is obviously fitted with a Schedoni leather strap on black rubber. The overall colour palette is a tribute to colours of the Lone Star State: blue, white and red. The strap uses the same Navy blue (with tone-on-tone stitches this time) as the Arabic numerals of the dial, while the seconds counter features red and white markers. A circular transfer on the sapphire case back reaffirms the colours of Texas.
Although the watch looks very nice, I prefer the versions with more bright and contrasting colours like the Big Bang Ferrari Beverly Hills Boutique, the Big Bang Ferrari Hong Kong Edition or even the [watch Big Bang Ferrari California 30 Giappone]. It gives a sportier feel to the watch which fits perfectly with the racing theme attached to Ferrari.
In Houston for the Formula One Grand Prix, driver Felipe Massa represented the Scuderia Ferrari for which Hublot is the official watch at the boutique inauguration. This is kind of ironic considering that the same Felipe Massa is in fact an ambassador for… Richard Mille! Which version of the RM 011 Flyback Chronograph was he wearing while cutting the ribbon?
