Flash News: Richard Mille RM 011 Flyback Chronograph Orange Storm
By Thierry Ané on September 8, 2014
The very long list of RM 011 limited editions expands once again with the Orange Storm, a great-looking flyback chronograph available exclusively in the Americas. This area of the globe must be extremely profitable for Richard mille judging by the frequency at which new dedicated models are introduced there!
Just a few days ago, Richard Mille was already the centre of Watch Agora’s attention with the newly unveiled RM 011 Flyback Chronograph Black Phantom that I briefly reviewed hereFlash News: Richard Mille RM 011 Flyback Chronograph Black Phantom for our readers. This 50-piece edition for the North and South American markets played the stealthy card with an always fashionable all-black look.
For the watch lovers that have already too many gloomy models in their collections and are so proud of their Richard Mille timepieces that they want them extremely visible, the famous brand has just released the perfect combination of high-tech materials and vibrant details with the new RM 011 Flyback Chronograph Orange Storm!
The tripartite case is the same as the Black Phantom’s: sand-blasted matte black TZP ceramic is used for the front and back bezels of the watch. This extremely scratch-resistant material is paired with NTPT carbon for the case band, a material inherited from aerospace technology and also used in Formula One racing.
What sets this model apart, though, is the presence of vibrant orange on the flange of the black skeleton dial. This joyful colour is also used for the Arabic numerals and the luminescent material on the hands of the watch. The indications on the black small seconds and chronograph counters are also in bright orange. Lastly, this powerful colour can be found on the rubber strap secured by a titanium buckle and on the rubber ring of the crown.
Inside the watch beats the same skeletonized movement as in previous RM 011 models. This self-winding calibre offers 55 hours of power reserve and features the brand’s adjustable rotor geometry. This chronograph with a 60-minute countdown timer and 12-hour totalizer is equipped with a flyback function and an extremely useful annual calendar. The oversized date at 12 o’clock and the month indication at 4:30 will only need to be adjusted once a year.
I truly love this RM 011 Flyback Chronograph Orange Storm. For me, it belongs to this special category of Richard Mille’s timepieces that combines state-of-the-art technologies and the very best of Fine Watchmaking techniques with daring colours and materials to create something utterly unique in the hushed world of Haute Horlogerie.
In this incredible category, one could quote the RM 033 Sentebale, the RM 028 Diver in brown PVD titanium, the RM 059-01 Yohan Blake or this year's RM 050-01 Lotus F1 Team Romain Grosjean and RM 038-01 Tourbillon G-Sensor Bubba Watson. But the list is by no means exhaustive and I think we can safely bet the RM 011 Orange Storm is clearly not the last timepiece to amaze us from this incredibly talented manufacture.
This exclusive edition of 30 pieces is available now in the two US Richard Mille boutiques in Beverly Hills and Las Vegas as well as in selected authorized retailers in the North and South American region. The watch retails for $160 000.
