Flash News: Eberhard & Co Tazio Nuvolari Solo Tempo

By Thierry Ané on September 29, 2014

On the occasion of the Gran Premio Nuvolari 2014 that took place from September 18 – 20 in Italy, Swiss watch brand Eberhard & Co unveiled the latest addition to the “Tazio Nuvolari” collection dedicated to the all times legend of motorsports that made a career as both a motorcycle racer and a racecar driver.

The Official Sponsor and Official Timekeeper of the vintage car race starting in Mantova and going through several picturesque Italian cities like Pisa, Siena, Rimini or Ferrara used this opportunity to introduce the Tazio Nuvolari Solo Tempo.

This extremely graphic timepiece presents a 42.5 mm stainless steel case with a thickness of 11.35 mm. It is polished to a mirror finish and features a black PVD ring on the bezel to enhance the sporty look.

The dial combines the black and red colours often associated with racing pieces. The outer chapter received a “perlée” finish and hosts the 12 luminescent Arabic numerals profiled in red. Separated by a metal ring, the centre reveals an opaque black surface bearing the brand’s name, the driver’s signature as well as the initials “TN”. The time is given by three central hands and a window at 6 o’clock indicates the date.

The back of the Solo Tempo is closed and has been engraved with Tazio Nuvolari’s signature and initials in a medallion surrounded by an outer zone decorated with perlage. The watch is paired with a black alligator strap with contrasting red stitches and is secured by a steel pin buckle engraved with the brand’s name. Inside the watch beats the self-winding ETA 2824-2 calibre.

There are a lot of chronograph models in this “Tazio Nuvolari” collection and even one with the same contemporary look as the Solo Tempo. This is, however, the first time-only model: a welcome addition for the watch aficionados in search of a more uncluttered dial.
