Watches: Hublot Big Bang Ferrari 60th Anniversary North America

By Thierry Ané on October 13, 2014

Last weekend marked 60 years of Ferrari presence in North America, and the brand with the Prancing Horse hosted a weekend of celebrations in Los Angeles including a Gala dinner and auction with Ferrari collectors and celebrities on Saturday, and an unprecedented gathering of Ferrari Club of America cars in Beverly Hills with over 500 participants on Sunday. Rodeo Drive was also the centre of the exhibition “Sixty Fabulous Ferrari on Rodeo Drive”, a public display of 60 of the most storied and spectacular Ferraris ever assembled.

As Official Watch and Official Timekeeper of both Ferrari and Scuderia Ferrari, Hublot took part in this truly memorable event, kicking off the celebrations of Friday evening with a dinner hosted by Jean-Claude Biver, Chaiman of Hublot and President of the LVMH Watch Division, at the Peterson Auto Museum where he presented Bruce Meyer, the founder of the museum, with a Hublot wall clock.

A Hublot pop-up store in Beverly Hills allowed guests to get familiar with some of the most beautiful Ferrari watches created since the beginning of the partnership in 2011 and, not surprisingly, the brand also used this opportunity to unveil a brand new model for the anniversary: the Ferrari 60th Anniversary North America, a stunning creation limited, of course, to just 60 pieces for the American market.

The 45.5 mm case of the newcomer is entirely crafted in carbon fibre for a decidedly very technical look. If several previous models of this collection already used carbon fibre on the bezel, it is just the second rendition, after the Ferrari Red Magic last year to use this lightweight material for the case as well, albeit with an entirely different colour scheme. The leading colour for this new creation is blue instead of red.

The blue in question is the one found on the American flag just like on the 2013 Ferrari Texas in titanium with a black ceramic bezel. If you are as big a Hublot fan as I am, you problably remember that Hublot previously used another (lighter) hue of blue on the all-ceramic Ferrari Beverly Hills Boutique. Design-wise, however, none of these past beautiful renditions come close to the aesthetics of the new limited edition in tribute to this 60th anniversary.

Here, the ruthenium-coloured in-house HUB 1241 Unico flyback movement visible through the sapphire dial presents blue hour markers and black nickel semi-skeletonized hands filled with luminescent material of the same colour. The minute track on the outer ring and small seconds counter at 3 o’clock play with the other two colours of the American flag, namely the red and white while a rhodium Prancing Horse occupies the 9 o’clock position.

The sapphire exhibition back features a Ferrari 60th Anniversary North America logo transfer and the black ceramic ring around it is engraved with “Special Edition” and the number of the watch (out of 60) in red lacquer. Like all Big Bang Ferrari models, this stunning edition comes with two interchangeable Schedoni leather straps. On the official pictures, the watch showcases blue Schedoni leather with white stitches but the innovative “quick-change” system allows you to easily put the black Schedoni leather with blue stitches if you decide to. The watch is safely secured to the wrist by the brand’s extremely comfortable folding buckle in black PVD titanium with a carbon insert.

As usual, Hublot does not disappoint with this extremely desirable Ferrari 60th Anniversary North America flyback chronograph: a great-looking model that you will wear with an undying pleasure only enhanced by the exclusivity of the watch.
