Watches: Hublot Big Bang Unico World Poker Tour

By Thierry Ané on December 18, 2014

Every single time I am in Vegas (which, I must say, is quite often…) I wonder why on earth has Hublot not partnered with some big poker event yet? For me, the brand’s absence from the world of poker players did not make sense for two reasons.

Firstly, in the last decade, poker has enjoyed an increasing visibility with dedicated magazines and TV shows featuring some star players. Everybody seems to be playing the game down to the kids in high school (or should I say primary school?) and be excited about it.

Secondly, Hublot has always pioneered new marketing opportunities, entering partnerships with such sports as football (soccer), boxing, basketball, and now cricket that were astonishingly left untapped by other luxury watch brands as they were somehow regarded as not "noble" or "glamorous" enough to be associated with their high-end watches. Hublot always knows better…

At last, the most energetic and creative brand of the Swiss watch industry has finally announced its entry into this fascinating world! I can’t tell you how excited I am, that this brand I admire so much is once again the first luxury watch Manufacture to break new ground by entering the international professional poker circuit as the Official Timekeeper and Official Watch!

Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO of Hublot, announced this amazing partnership at the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic that is being played at the Bellagio in Las Vegas this week. Televised by FOX Sports and in the presence of the greatest players on the circuit as well as amateur players from around the world, this event was also the perfect opportunity to unveil the first poker-dedicated timepieces created by the brand: the “Big Bang Unico World Poker Tour” watches.

Available in a limited run of 200 pieces in stainless steel and another 100 in King Gold, the new watch is a vibrant tribute to the game. Part of the new “Big Bang Unico” line featuring the HUB 1242 Unico movement with flyback function designed, developed and manufactured entirely in the brand’s workshops, these two models mainly differ from the rest of the collection by the presence of a customised bezel in stainless steel or King Gold showcasing four engraved card suit symbols at the cardinal points.

The sapphire dial so characteristic of this line reveals here an entirely black PVD-coated calibre enhanced by the red Super-LumiNova that adorns the Arabic numerals and hour markers as well as the semi skeletonized hours and minutes hands. Hublot’s famous lugs underneath the bezel are in black composite on both models.

These watches are also equipped with the brand’s exclusive “Easy One Click” system that allows you to change the strap in an instant whenever you want. To make this particularly useful (and tempting), each watch is delivered with no less than three alligator straps: one red and another black in keeping with the card game theme and a more flamboyant (just like poker?) alternative: a silver-treated alligator for the stainless steel and a gold-treated alligator for the King Gold version.

Do I need to specify that the sapphire crystal on the case back has also been customised for these stunning creations? In both cases it features an exclusive transfer of the World Poker Tour logo. And to bring the watches one step closer to the game, they are presented in special boxes featuring a set of poker chips!

The Big Bang Unico World Poker Tour Steel and Big Bang Unico World Poker Tour King Gold are two beautiful additions to a plethora of great-looking watches produced by the brand. They will undoubtedly make all the Hublot enthusiasts that are also poker players very happy and I am already excited about the many other amazing models this new partnership will undoubtedly bring…
