By Thierry Ané on January 19, 2015

With the release of the “Altiplano 41mm Chronograph”, Piaget maintains once again their supremacy in the ultra-thin segment with a double slimness record in major complication mode!

The new hand-wound 883P calibre that powers this model stems from the famous 880P movement, one of the thinnest on the market today. Entirely designed, developed and manufactured by Piaget, this 4.65 mm marvel holds the slimness record for a manually-wound flyback chronograph. It is of course controlled by a column-wheel and features a vertical coupling-clutch system to ensure perfect precision.

It is the first time the understated “Altiplano” collection is housing a major complication and the choice of a chronograph with flyback function will definitely appeal to all Haute Horlogerie connoisseurs. Particularly so considering that the watch holds another world record for thinness due to its slender 41 mm case with a thickness of just 8.24 mm…

The transparent case-back reveals the finely crafted mechanism and the elegance of finishes made in the purest tradition of Fine Watchmaking: circular Côtes de Genève, a circular-grained mainplate, bevelled bridges, sunburst wheels and blued screws. Nothing is missing to make this watch a must-have for all collectors with a weakness for ultra-thin models.

Aesthetically, the watch is a model of classicism with a silver dial featuring baton indexes and hands, as well as three registers: a small seconds sub-dial at 6 o’clock, the chronograph’s 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock and a second time zone on a 24-hour scale at the 9 o’clock position.

The Altiplano 41mm Chronograph” is available is pink gold mounted on dark brown alligator or in white gold with a bezel set with brilliant-cut diamonds that has been paired with black alligator. Both models are secured by a pin buckle in the same material as the case.

This is yet another perfectly crafted model that remains faithful to the brand’s values and beautifully showcases the immense know-how of this renowned Maison. A classic in the making…
