Photo Report: Hublot Big Bang Unico World Poker Tour (live pics)

By Thierry Ané on February 18, 2015

The timepiece I would like to present today is not “new” stricto sensu as it has been unveiled last December during the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic that took place at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. At the time I even introduced our readers to the Big Bang Unico World Poker TourWatches: Hublot Big Bang Unico World Poker Tour in a first article featuring the official pictures.

But, since we had the opportunity to discover the steel and King Gold renditions of this watch in person during the Geneva Week, I could not resist the temptation of bringing you the live photo coverage of these bold creations.

As I discussed them already, though, I will not come back on the in-house self-winding HUB 1242 Unico calibre with flyback chronograph that beats inside these timepieces or the reasons why I believe this is great news to see Hublot entering the world of professional poker. I refer the readers to the initial articleWatches: Hublot Big Bang Unico World Poker Tour for all this.

Instead, I will only briefly give you my impressions of the watch and let you enjoy the pictures we made on all angles…

So let’s face it: this is not the most subtle watches ever produced! Some may say that they are even flashy and kitsch. This is true! But is it also what makes them so appropriate for the world of poker and so fun.

It goes without saying that I would not recommend these models (particularly the King Gold version) for your usual day at the office. However smart your English bespoke suits are, however sophisticated the patina of your Italian custom-made shoes is, it would be difficult to balance out the ostentatious image brought by this single piece of accessory!

That being said, I personally would not mind wearing any of these two watches when I am by the poolside at the Wynn in Vegas in summer. Bling is not bad in itself: you just need to find the right place to wear it…

Although the official pictures are neat as always with Hublot, they do not really convey how irresistibly shiny these models are. The silver strap of the stainless steel model and the golden strap of the King Gold are exquisite like the rest of Hublot’s strap and bracelet production. In both cases, the alligator reproduces perfectly the shine of the case and together with the silver or gold accents on the sapphire dial manage to create an amazing monochromatic metallic effect.

I have stated many times on Watch Agora how much I am a fan of the new Big Bang Unico 45.50 mm case and its tubular chronograph pushers. It was nice to see it paired with a brand new bezel featuring four card suit symbols: it is an obvious reference to the poker game and it really looks great.

I have also often praised the brand’s exclusive “Easy One Click” system that allows you to change the strap in an instant whenever you want. It really comes in handy this time as the watch is delivered with three different straps: the metallic version to match the case as well as a black and a red strap, all of them in alligator with red stitches and sewn onto black rubber. The latter two will make the watch easier to wear should you decide to venture off-strip or pay a visit to downtown Vegas!

In conclusion, Hublot has once again produced two cool watches to own and wear: if you have the money, you should buy one!
