Watches: Vacheron Constantin: New Overseas Models
By Thierry Ané on May 20, 2015
It is always a challenge for a renowned Manufacture esteemed for their refined and timeless creations to come up with a sportier line offering appealing models for less formal occasions without losing the identity codes at the very heart of their success.
Still, this is exactly what Vacheron Constantin has achieved with the youthful and understated “Overseas” collection. Since the launch in 1996, the powerful yet flowing lines of these creations featuring a bezel inspired by the brand-emblem Maltese Cross and a gorgeous engraving of the famous Amerigo Vespucci three-mast ship on the case back have embodied the brand’s definition of casual elegance.
Over the years, the “Overseas” case has been introduced in a variety of metals ranging from multi-purpose stainless steel to luxurious gold, not forgetting technical titanium, and the watch has housed a large array of complications starting with time and date models all the way up to perpetual calendars. Despite being interpreted in so many ways, the “Overseas” has never lost its exclusivity and has even reached the desirable “collector” status.
With summer approaching (shyly in Europe though!), the Geneva-based Manufacture has decided to offer the many fans of the “Overseas” collection two additional references boasting a magnificent ultramarine blue colour: the Overseas Date Automatic Ultramarine Blue limited to 350 pieces and the Overseas Dual Time Ultramarine Blue produced in a limited run of 300 units.
The colour of the oceans is a natural fit for this maritime collection and Vacheron Constantin already dressed the “Overseas” in this festive colour in the past. The brand’s aficionados will undoubtedly remember the stunning Overseas Chronograph Perpetual Calendar New York Boutique presented in 2011 for the American boutique and more recently the gorgeous Overseas Chronograph in stainless steel with blue dial and alligator or rubber strap (presented hereWatches: Vacheron Constantin Overseas Chronograph with Blue Dial on Watch Agora) unveiled in 2013. This year, two additional models of this exciting line will hit the spotlights in a deep shade of blue.
The time and date Overseas Date Automatic is powered by the brand’s 1226 SC calibre while the 1222 SC calibre animates the Overseas Dual Time. Both mechanical movements are self-winding and protected from magnetic fields by a soft iron inner case. Consistent with their sportier nature, these 42 mm watches crafted in stainless steel boast a water resistance to a depth of 150 meters.
The dial of these great-looking limited editions presents a summery shiny varnished blue colour with white painted indications offering a welcome contrast. The hands and hour markers are filled with white luminescent material to ensure optimal readability in all circumstances. These must-have timepieces are delivered with two straps matching the colour of the dial: a blue rubber strap for sporty occasions and a magnificent blue hand-stitched large-scale Mississippiensis alligator leather to remain smart in casual situations. A triple folding buckle in stainless steel ensures security and comfort on the wrist.
