The first stage of competition in the 2017 America’s Cup will take place this summer with a racing circuit featuring the best sailors in the world, competing on foiling, wing-sailed catamarans. Overall ranking position in these America’s Cup World Series will determine the starting points score of the teams in the America's Cup Qualifiers in 2017.

Many prestigious watch brands have partnered with the renowned sailing teams over the years but Omega has long supported the yachtsmen of the Emirates Team New Zealand. Watch enthusiasts may remember for instance the Seamaster 300M Chrono Diver Emirates Team New Zealand 2013 that the Swiss brand unveiled two years ago in their tribute. In anticipation of the 35th America’s Cup, this member of the Swatch Group is now unveiling the Seamaster 300M Chrono Diver Emirates Team New Zealand 2015.

With its clear maritime roots, the “Seamaster 300M Chrono Diver” is a natural choice to honour these professional sailors. Water resistant to a depth of 300 meters despite its chronograph function, this model is equipped with a helium valve and an integrated date corrector at 10 o’clock on the case band. It is powered by the brand’s self-winding Co-Axial 3330 calibre featuring an Si14 silicon balance spring.

The 44 mm case of the 2015 Edition is made of lightweight titanium, a material that is also extremely resistant to corrosion. It unidirectional rotating bezel presents a black ceramic ring with a polished diving scale whose indications have been created in relief using laser ablation. The screwed-in case back is embossed with the “Emirates Team New Zealand” logo and the chronograph pushers at 2 and 4 o’clock are respectively adorned with red aluminium or black ceramic rings.

The dial of this year’s version is particularly refined and gives this model its unique character. Crafted in grade 5 titanium with a sand-blasting finish it boasts a stunning grey colour. Circled by a silver titanium flange this beautiful dial is enhanced by the dotted hour markers filled with white Super-LumiNova and the skeleton hours and minutes hands tipped with the same material.

For an improved legibility, all the chronograph information are indicated in red and in the dark, the Super-LumiNova on the dial emits a blue light while the luminescent material on the diving scale glows in blue. The 30-minute chronograph register located at 3 o’clock also indicates the five-minute countdown to the start of the regatta.

Although understated, the rubber strap of this Seamaster 300M Chrono Diver Emirates Team New Zealand 2015 is extremely sophisticated. The top part is black with a subtle ribbed pattern while the underside is bright red with a design reminiscent of the sails of the team’s boat. In addition to its evocative appeal, this pattern also ensures that water and air can pass freely underneath, allowing the skin to breathe. The watch is secured by a titanium folding buckle.

Overall, the Seamaster 300M Chrono Diver Emirates Team New Zealand 2015 has an extremely appealing design with clear references to the world of sailing and with a price tag of US$ 7,800 it is undoubtedly excellent value for money: a very accomplished timepiece!
