Flash News: A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Chronograph

By Thierry Ané on September 8, 2015

The Watches & Wonders 2015 exhibition that will open its gates on September 30th in Hong Kong should once again offer an exciting Asian version of the famous SIHH with most of the participating brands using this opportunity to unveil new creations.

Once again, the members of the press and the watch collectors will head to this vibrant city to discover first-hand what the elite of Haute Horlogerie has to offer and, in order to arouse our curiosity, most brands will leak one or two pre-releases within the next three weeks.

A. Lange & Söhne kicks off these presentations with a new iteration of the “1815 Chronograph” unveiled in white gold or pink gold in 2010. In order to keep the emotion intact during the exhibition, the German brand does not give us a lot of information to pass on or a glut of pictures to look at.

What we know is that at least a new special edition in white gold with the same 39.50 x 10.80 mm white gold case as one of the 2010 models will be introduced. The timepiece will still be powered by the brand’s in-house L951.5 calibre. This manually-wound movement featuring a stop-second function and a flyback chronograph with precise jumping seconds boasts the exceptional finish and decoration that have made the reputation of the brand. A large sapphire crystal on the back of the watch allows the owner to enjoy the exquisite craftsmanship just like the previous two renditions.

The originality of the special edition that will officially be unveiled in Hong Kong comes from the solid silver dial featuring a pulsometer scale in addition to blue Arabic numerals. The small seconds hand in the register at 8 o’clock and the two chronograph hands are flame-blued while the central hours and minutes gold hands have been rhodium-coloured.

This new iteration of the “1815 Chronograph” definitely looks different, perhaps “sportier” or more contemporary than the original versions and should be one of the brand’s highlights during the fair.
