Watches: Graham 1695 Chronofighter Oversize Navy SEAL Foundation

By Thierry Ané on September 15, 2015

The Navy SEAL Foundation is a non-profit organisation whose mission is to provide immediate and ongoing support and assistance to the Naval Special Warfare Community and its families. This month, Swiss luxury brand Graham 1695 has decided to help them raise money for their important missions by making a donation from the sale of each timepiece of the 500-unit limited edition they have just created in tribute to the Navy SEAL Foundation.

With its sturdy 47 mm case and easy to operate chronograph trigger placed on the left-hand-side above the crown, the “Chronofighter Oversize” seemed of course the appropriate model to pay tribute to this elite special operations force. Stealth being an essential part of their modus operandi, the brand opted for a black PVD coating on the stainless steel case and added a black ceramic bezel to ensure the ruggedness imperative for their missions. The iconic start-stop chronograph trigger has been crafted in black carbon with the characteristic carbon fibre pattern that adds to the technical vibes of the watch.

The beautifully crafted rubber strap shares the same inconspicuous black colour as the case but retains the elegant “Clous de Paris” decoration found on most models of this collection. It is secured by a black ceramic pin buckle and the piece housing the self-winding G1747 chronograph movement is water resistant to a depth of 100 meters.

To stick to the military theme of this rendition, Graham used once again the grey camouflage dial introduced for one version of the Black Arrow in 2014. This time, however, the well-known military pattern has been modernised and appears pixelated. The small seconds counter at 3 o’clock and the chronograph register at 6 o’clock still boast the black snailed finish of the Black Arrow and the watch’s hands are also entirely black, including their luminescent material.

One has to carefully look at the watch’s dial to detect the tone-on-tone Navy SEAL Foundation insignia that has been placed at 11 o’clock and does not alter the furtive overall look. On the other hand, a much bolder tribute to the Navy Seal Foundation can be found on the back of the watch. Indeed, the sapphire crystal of the back that lets you admire the essential parts of the calibre received a beautiful waving American flag on which the “Navy SEAL Foundation” logo stands out in bright white letters.

As usual for this collection, the Chronofighter Oversize Navy SEAL Foundation timepiece comes with a water resistant briefcase box. To further stress its military affiliations, it also features a military flashlight in beige and khaki colours (grey would have been more coherent though). All in all, the Chronofighter Oversize Navy SEAL Foundation is a fine sports watch with an overall design perfectly in line with its military connections.
