Watches: Corum Admiral’s Cup AC-One 45 Chronograph Americas

By Thierry Ané on November 7, 2013

At Baselworld this year, Corum launched a new collection named Admiral’s Cup AC-One 45 Chronograph. A new take on the iconic Admiral’s Cup timepiece, the new collection maintains the twelve-sided shape of the bezel that made the original version so famous but, this time, places it on a more rounded 45 mm case.

What makes this new timepiece so special, however, is the multi-layer construction of the case. Basically, you have a five-part sandwich: a bezel, a middle part and a back linked together by two intermediate inlays.

We saw two iterations at Baselworld: a timepiece with titanium back, middle part and bezel with black PVD-coated titanium inlays and another version using a titanium middle part but red gold bezel, inlays and back.

Obviously, this particular case construction lends itself to the creation of various versions and I knew immediately that we could expect the introduction of exciting limited series from this collection. After the not-so-different Admiral’s Cup AC-One Regatta released earlier this year, here comes the terrific Admiral’s Cup AC-One 45 Chronograph Americas limited series!

To honour the cultural diversity of the American continent, the Admiral’s Cup AC-One 45 Chronograph is interpreted in nine versions: one for each of the following countries: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, the United States, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Venezuela and, finally, an extra version dedicated to the American continent as a whole.

For the models dedicated to a specific country, the details of the country flag are used to select the colour palette of the model. They all have a black PVD-coated titanium bezel, middle case and back but the intermediate titanium inlays of the case as well as the crown guards use different colours of PVD-coating. So do the stitches of the black alligator strap of each model. The colour of the hour markers, the hands and the chronograph sub-dials put the finishing touches to each timepiece. Lastly, turn the timepiece over and the American continent transfer of the open case back will feature a filled-in metallization on the territory corresponding to the country honoured by this specific timepiece.

The watch dedicated to the entire American continent mixes black PVD-coated titanium and red gold and also features the black split pomegranate motif representative of the Admiral’s Cup AC-One 45 Chronograph collection.

And, since a picture is sometimes worth a thousand words, please enjoy the diversity of this Admiral’s Cup AC-One 45 Chronograph Americas collection.
